Electronic innovation

Our history

Neways’ history is rich with innovation and collaboration. Read more about our journey towards the international innovator in electronics we are today.

1969: starting from the core of electronics

Let’s go back to 1969. Former Philips employee Gerard Meulensteen sets up his own business, under the name of Elektrotechnisch Projecten Bureau Meulensteen: the start of an enterprise that has evolved into Neways today: an international innovator in electronics for smart mobility, connectivity and semicon solutions.

1980's: first wave of growth

In the 1980’s, we started our transition from a regional company into an internationally operating enterprise, leading to strong autonomous growth. In 1986 we transformed to a public company and listed our shares on the Amsterdam stock exchange, where we are still listed today under the symbol NEWAY.

1990's: global expansion

In the early 1990s we expanded our technological position through various acquisitions, amongst which Philips Leeuwarden (PME), Philips MSA and Si-Electron in the Netherlands, Prozess- und Maschinen Automation in Germany. At the end of the 1990s, we opened our facilities in Eastern Europe and Asia, enabling substantial cost reductions far in advance of later market trends.

2000's: towards a leading European electronics player

At the beginning of the 21st century, Neways further expanded its activities in Eastern Europe and Asia. With the acquisition of Stork Electronics in 2004 and Bus Group in 2014, we expanded our position in the semiconductor, medical and automotive industries and solidified our leading electronics position in Europe.

2010's: broadening our technological leadership

In the 2010s we expanded our focus on emerging trends around industrial automation, internet of things, big data and smart mobility. We increasingly leveraged our technological knowledge to serve our customers with solutions around these themes and expanded our team of engineers to total about 500 specialists. This transition formed the basis for the role of system innovator that we offer nowadays to our customers.

2020's: embarking on next stage of growth

We started the 2020s with our strategy to increasingly work as One Neways and further expand our position as technology innovation partner for our customers. Today, we develop and produce electronics that facilitate major trends around global ESG themes. Our technology is leading in enabling EV charging, electric power trains, autonomous driving, digitizing health solutions, producing microchips and more. More than ever, we are set-up to serve our customers on their challenges of tomorrow.
